Causes of Ringing in Ears

Page history last edited by Moonie Flo 7 mos ago

A very common question that is frequently asked by sufferers of tinnitus is what are the possible causes of ringing in ears.  Although this question may sound plain and simple, finding the right answer to address all your concerns may be a tough thing to do.  Below are some frequently asked questions on tinnitus which will hopefully bright light to everybody concerned about having a ringing in the ears.

Are there things that must be avoided to keep you safe from acquiring a ringing in ears?

There are in fact several things that you should watch for, if you want to avoid harming your ears and eventually develop a condition called tinnitus.  Frequent exposure to loud noise is among the major causes of ringing in ears.  Thus we should be very careful when listening to our favorite music in our Ipods, going to discos or attending loud concerts.  If you love listening to songs in your Ipod, try to keep the volume low and if you should go to discos and attend loud concerts, stay away from the location of the loud speakers.

How can loud noise damage the ears?

Most of us are not aware that even a noisy environment can provide damage to our ears without us even noticing it.  As our ears get constantly exposed to noise, the very delicate hair cells which are located in the cochlea becomes traumatized, thus causing it to be damaged, which in turn disrupts the ability of the ears to deliver sound to the brain for interpretation.

Is there a way for hearing to be restored after it has been damaged?

Since hearing impairment and ringing in the ears go together, one concern of those who have tinnitus would be the possibility of having their hearing problem restored and perhaps the ringing in the ears eliminated.  Unfortunately it is a case to case basis, depending on what caused the damage to the hearing.  Temporary hearing loss may still be treated and hearing restored while permanent hearing loss has no treatment and one of its causes happens to be exposure to loud noise.

How do I know if the amount of noise that I am hearing is damaging to my ears?

This is often a concern.  How loud is loud and what is the extent of noise that our ears can tolerate.  To be able to determine that you are in a so-called danger zone, keep away from a place where you cannot hear a person who is talking to you in a normal manner.  If the person needs to shout in order for you to understand what she or he is saying, then better leave the place.

Tinnitus is something that you should be afraid of.  If you know the causes of ringing in ears, then it is easier for you to take care of your ears and prevent it from incurring any form of damage or get a cure for tinnitus.
