Page history last edited by Moonie Flo 6 mos ago

One of the most common troubles brought about by industrialization and technology is tinnitus. Hearing loss is the factor that usually accompanies the said condition. Statistics show that about fifty million Americans have tinnitus and twelve million of these people have worse cases, prompting them to seek medical attention. More than twenty million have some degree of deafness too in United States alone.

Hearing damage is due to a number of factors with which most afflicted are unnecessarily exposed to. It stems up from unfavorable lifestyle and would have been prevented if chosen to. There are a lot of easy ways to avoid harming your ears.

1.    Do not stay in areas where there is loud noise. Some people say this advice is easier said than done. Most people have jobs that require them to be exposed to noises. When you get to your workplace via a train, for instance, you hear the train engine at the train station, and there is just no way to avoid that. Wearing ear muffs upon getting on the train is just absurd. In the workplace, if you are in the production area, most likely you will come across heavy noise. Some establishments recommend that their workers wear ear protection.

2.    Watch the volume of your music gadgets and stereos. Loud noise is the common cause of tinnitus. Hearing loss may progress upon prolonged exposure to extreme noises, which may come about in form of loud music. Many music enthusiasts fail to reckon that when they maximize the volumes of their mp3’s they get to hear sound at around 100 decibels and that is bad enough for your ears. Experts suggest not turning the volumes of stereos to more than sixty per cent of the maximum.

3.    Read drug labels. Some medicines that you can buy in the drugstores or the ones prescribed by doctors may have damaging effects to your hearing. They are called ototoxic drugs. Aspririn and some antibiotics are ototoxic and may have side effects as hearing loss and tinnitus. Ask your doctor about the adverse effects of medicines. Some people are sensitive than others and are more vulnerable to the ototoxic properties of medicines than others.

4.    Note that some diseases have symptoms that include deafness and ringing ears. Viral diseases like measles, mumps, flu and rubella can infect the middle and inner ear. When infection is sustained, symptoms of tinnitus and hearing loss may occur.

There are a lot of ways to stay free from tinnitus and there are also tinnitus maskers to help you. Hearing loss is an inconvenience. If you can avoid them, better.
